British Swimrun Rankings

The British Swimrun Rankings have been developed in collaboration with race organisers across the British Isles and have been developed to reward both performance and participation.

Points are awarded to registered athletes and teams who finish an affiliated race in their category position. Competitors competing in teams receive points both for their individual category and for their team’s category position.

  • Max Points = 345
  • Points are reduced by 20 points / place for placing 2nd – 4th
  • Points are reduced by   5 points / place for placing 5th – 30th
  • Points are reduced by   2 points / place for placing 31st – 132nd
  • Min Points =  30, every finisher receives a minimum of 30 points.

To earn ranking points competitors need to register for their British Swimrun ID and share it with race organisers.

The rankings reset each calendar year.

Ranking Tiers and Race Distances

The Ranking Tiers have been created on the basis of distance and for 2024 are standardised around the distance of a marathon –  42.1 kms. 

The Tier names and distances in kms are shown here:

  • Short: < 10 kms
  • Long: 21.1 to 42.1 kms
  • Middle: 10 to 21 kms
  • Ultra: > 42.1 kms

Categories

There are separate categories for Women and Men as individuals in addition to Female, Male and Mixed teams.

Rankings FAQs:

Points in British Swimrun’s Ranking systems are only awarded to registered finishers of affiliated races where the athlete provides the race organiser with their ID.

Affiliated race organisers have committed to add your ID to your entry post sign-up so that you can still be awarded any points.

Apart from ensuring race organisers have your ID, you don’t have to do anything. 

Race organisers will provide us with their results and include your ID, a few days after racing you should be able to see your latest position on the website.

Your British Swimrun ID is free in 2025 and there is no cost to participate in the ranking system. This may change in the future as British Swimrun settles on a funding mechanism.

For 2025 the Ranking Tables have been split into 4 distance tiers.

Taking a steer from widely accepted running norms it was decided that above the distance of a marathon would be classed as Ultra, with Long up to a Marathon distance,  the distances are halved successively for the Middle and Short tiers.
